Introducing the Infragard Indiana Financial Services Sector Blog

Hello and welcome to the Indiana Infragard Financial Services sector blog. In this blog, we will be addressing some of the issues relating to the banking and financial services sector. There is a lot of information that is being presented to us from many directions. Trying to keep up with the FS-ISAC, the IN-ISAC, US-CERT, InfraGard, etc. can be a full-time job. I don’t plan to make this blog yet another alert system for telling you things that you’re already getting from these other sources. In this blog, I’m going to be trying to find the obscure, oft-overlooked, and yet very important tidbits of knowledge that you need to be aware of, but may not be getting otherwise. I’m going to need your help though. Through both comments and content. I want your feedback in the comments or directly to me at the email address in the signature line. Also, the best way for me to get the obscure content is from you. Don’t be afraid of filling my email … I’ll filter it out and then do some digging to root out the germane from the “fake news” and provide it here.

So who am I to be doing this? Currently I’m your Financial Services sector chief for Indiana Infragard. That’s a nice fancy title for the person who coordinates communication though the sector and sends out reminders about meetings. Now I’m also going to be providing this service as well. My specialty is in cyber forensics, but I have a strong background in cybersecurity, cyberwarfare, and cyberterrorism. I reverse engineer malware as a hobby. I teach these topics at Sullivan University in Kentucky. I’m also the Chief Information Security Officer for First Financial Bank in Terre Haute (no endorsement, just full disclosure).

Here we go. Off to the races with the first post on the FFIEC’s Cybersecurity Assessment Tool!

Best regards,

Brian.
